It’s becoming pathetic for those who lament without any visible hope for the future; the future itself is a finished product of the process we undergo today. How then can one explain the misery my fellow young Nigeria who graduated 4 years ago (2004) and has yet fulfill his dream of getting a cooperate job. A Second Class Upper degree symbolizes a very hardworking, forward thinking and an above average student but does this translate into the work life of this same graduate? My answer will definitely be a big YES!
Â
Â
Habits are very difficult to break; if you come out of a good university (emphasis on good) and you graduated with a 2.1, I am sure you will be able to bring the same disposition to the work place but there seem to a big problem. The problem is simple but yet complex; the problem is access to relevant information. The difference between one human being and the other is the difference in the information they process and assimilate. This information is what separates those that struggle and those that have a smooth sail.
Â
Â
It is heartbreaking to read the above subject-head; it is more heartbreaking not have a solution for their problems. When I see someone that I regard as successful, I know the person has information that I don’t. I don’t feel the person is lucky or better leveraged in terms of skill or talent, I feel the person has processed some given information that I am yet to process. If I regard the person as a success, that means I am disposed to wanting what the person have.
Â
Â
If I finish school and I want to be a university professor; I will never regard a manager in Chevron as a success. I may appreciate the off shoots of his achievements like money, house, etc; I will never regard him as a success. I may not just be wired to be like that. It does not mean a Chevron Manager is not successful, it just means that I am not wired to want his achievement so to me he is not successful.
Â
Defining who is successful and who is not is the bane of every Nigerian young man. The absolute definition is elusive; we flip flop when the issue of money is highlighted. This then becomes a very huge issue because we cannot focus on what we want and focus is very important to any achievement. If you have a 2.1 and you do not have a job, it is simply because you are not focused with what you want; you dillydally from one test center to another hoping that your freedom to apply to any job makes you invincible coupled with the opportunity to further your education.
Â
Â
The issue is always in the focus; when you focus on the right information for the right destination, you will surely get to the place of focus. The focus also keeps you on a stable emotional level when you go through challenges in the path to your focus place; it is this focus that Nigerian young men need to cultivate.
Â
Â
If you are a 2.1 and you have not got a job. Remember, getting a job is a job itself; you need to get a job (not just any job but a good job; the one with the 6-figure per month) which should be your present focus. You need to review the JOBFinder Manual. It is a total package that gives you complete freedom to choose your right vocation. Hello Dipo and all other commentators.
Focus is in deed very important in the pursuit of our desired gaol. It’s better we know what we want and we’ll get it despite the setbacks along the way.

“Every exploit in life is a product of knowledge (acquired information)”-Bishop Oyedepo. emphasis mine
No wonder Proverbs 19 vs 2 declares that it is not good for the soul to be without knowledge.
Enough said!

good post. it’s funny that within the same population. a class of people switch jobs like crazy, while some, with even first class keep searching for one break they can’t even locate…there is definetely a skill, character requirement that creates the gulf between the two.
anyways, dipo. your book, looks like a big one-stop solution center for all jobs seekers.
cheers
