The wealth of information and exposure you would get would prepare for higher possibilities and even a change in career. I earned a PMP certification in 2007. From a backaground in IT I went into supply chain management and ran the supply chain divison in my company's food division for one year. ( I could not have done this without exposure to PM). I am back to my IT unit again but do get opportunities to do so much more than IT for my organisation. Project Management is an interesting field.
