Indeed, the type of foundation you lay for yourself will determine to a great extent you will go in life. It is not luck. What you sow is what you will reap. Jesus promised "I willl make way in the wilderness and provide water int he desert". He certainly knows that it will not always be rossy but He will be there for us. There are risk takers and risk averters. These are 2 different people that the parable of the man with one talent and the other men describes. This is very inspiring.
