Present Location: Hong Kong International Airport, Hong Kong. “How much does it cost?” I was pointing to the 555ml of bottled water. He looked at me and pointed to the direction of the water to confirm my choice in the array of bottled liquids. I concurred and I heard him say “3 dollars”. “Do you mean 3 Hong Kong dollars?” I asked. He expatiated further; “No, 3 American dollars; it is 70 Hong Kong dollars”. I paused for beat and did the calculation which amounted to 360 Naira for a 0.56 liter bottle of water which costs 35 Naira in Dubai International Airport and 200 Naira for 1litre bottled water in all the airports in Nigeria. My Ijebu instinct took over me and I turned back, walking towards the purpose of procuring the water; it was for a 14-year old female Philippines teenager vomiting ceaselessly because of her phobia for flying. She was a stranger to me but I was the only one kind enough to enquire about her condition. She just finished a term in school and came in from Heathrow Airport transferring to Manila International Airport where her parents are waiting for her. I looked in her direction one more time and turned to get the bottled water; all the while thinking of my daughter.

It is 4.30 a.m., Feb 6th and I have not been able to sleep; my eyes are simultaneously moving between CNN and CNNPOLITICS.COM. The main focus is the logger-head battle between Senator Barack Obama and Senator Hilary Clinton for the Democratic Nomination. I have never been as engrossed in the US politics as I am with the 2008 primaries. It’s a complex political process with yesterday tagged “Super Duper Tuesday” comprising 24 states voting which is a huge determinant to who will clinch his/her party nomination especially for the Republicans.

Apart from the Guber elections this weekend, my wife started her ice cream business three days before the elections and I was available to act as VOLTRON on the mercies of Obasanjo’s two days public holiday. I was around on the second day to witness a flood of retailers lining up to collect blocked ice cream; the whole place was in disarray and there was no time to do anything else except attend to customers. The business actually surprised me because two days into it, the human traffic was unprecedented; this was a good indication of my wife’s sales prowess. Another thing that surprised me was that after the retailers were gone for their morning ride, consumers started walking in to buy in retail and the wholesale model immediately transformed to retail. My wife and I had to change the vision statement from being the best supplier of blocked ice cream to being the best supplier of cold non-alcoholic, non-bottled drinks because retail customers that walked in were more interested in Juice and the Burn Energy drinks I bought from Ayo during his Intern Show final task.
