The week after I finished my MBA program with a distinction, my wife did something that actually opened my eyes to the power of having an MBA; she included MBA to my old CV and sent it to one of the telecoms companies in Nigeria and I was called for an interview a week after. I actually did not attend the interview but I was glad to know that I could easily pick up a job if I wanted to. MBA is a professional course which means you cannot build on it with M.phil or PHD; it is one of the most expensive formal education programs on earth. The funny part about these schools is that they do not guarantee a very high paying job because most of the graduates stick to working in US or UK. Let’s be frank, it’s all about the money at the end of the day and MBA is MBA. But in coming to a country like Nigeria, the perspective is quite different; a foreign MBA commands more respect and thus more money than an MBA from a Nigerian University. It’s funny that even the Nigerian universities when recruiting discriminate against their own degree when compared to a degree from Europe. It’s good to know that I am wanted but it’s better to bring more people to my status.
